Syria is heading for full-blown civil war, top UN official warns Ten people have died in the latest clashes as protesters urge more people to defect from the Syrian security forces Large rallies urging further defections from the Syrian security forces have been attacked by government gunmen, as a senior United Nations official warned that the country was sliding towards a full-blown civil war. At least 10 people were killed across Syria, taking the death toll in the six-month uprising to more than 3,000, not including loyalist members of the security forces who continue to target demonstrators.

The US papers don’t seem to care because King Obama ignores Syria. I guess a nation not in Africa isn’t worth his time.

The Arab papers are different story, especially BBC Arabic. They are reporting almost daily about protestors being killed by the military.

Syria needs a serious cleaning. Unfortunately, the hardcore Muslims would likely take control of any new government and turn it into Egypt and Libya.

Not good.
Syria is the only place left for a lot of Christians in the area.

Well at least it keeps them from firing at Israel, for a few hours.

The resulting Isalmist regime is likely to be worse than Assad. The Brownshirts always clean up in these situations. To date Syrian (Chaldean) Christians have been relatively safe. This will end once the Islamists take over, just like the Copts in Egypt.

and moreso Damascus discussing opposition activities here in the USA...

The US and Britain this week demanded that the Syrian regime stop intimidating activists abroad. US officials announced the arrest of a Syrian national who they claimed had filmed and threatened activists in Washington and then flown to Damascus to discuss opposition activities inside the US with the president, Bashar al-Assad, and his inner sanctum.

Curiously, the Chicoms via CCTV9, satellite channel, have been doing a pretty good job covering Syria——better even than AlJazeera.

Syria is heading for full-blown civil war...
...it's gotten so bad in Syria that the rebels have invented a time machine and made it look as if the Syrian civil war has been going on since March. /s

What's been going on in Syria is the "Arab Spring". I have yet to see it covered that way. Weird coincidence that the partisan media shills control what paases for news in the US.

More than any one else in the area. Including our client state Iraq.

Syria is ruled by a sect of Islam that doesn't get along well with anyone other muslims. They have been looking after the Christian remnant better than anyone else.

Look at the Copts in Egypt. The “Arab Spring” turned into a very dark winter for one of the earliest Christian churches.

We have been backing the wrong horse. These uprisings are not a good thing.

Obama needs the campaign contributions from his arab buddies.

Everything he does is designed to collect something from it. It’s the Chicago way.

tellw -- red is 100% correct, the Alawites are considered horrific heretics by the rest of the Moslems (arguably they are not Moslem but Gnostic) and these Alawites control Syria. They protect the 10-20% of the population that is Christian

If Assad's regime collapses, Christians will be massacred.

This is a problem because like all the other civil wars going on right now, it is the terrorist branches of Islam that are taking over the Nations. The sleeping Giant of Jihad is awakening. When it is all over, and the chips fall where they may, there will be one hell of a war in the middle east.

And Islam will knock itself out. Unfortunately it will also knock out the worlds oil production facilities at the same time. Pretty stupid of us to do all this wealth transfer to the barbarians of the deserts. It was Political imbecility, something the progressives major in. And, like all Progressive politics, it will bite us in the butt bigtime.
